Small business websites in Czechia 2026: what 758 sites get wrong

Updated: October 2026Reading time: 7 min

I went through the websites of 819 businesses that the Czech search engine Seznam shows on its first page for searches like plumber Brno or dentist Olomouc. Mobile is solved. But 43% of the sites have no phone number you can tap, 56% give search engines no structured data about the business, and roughly one in sixteen does not open over https at all. Here are the numbers by trade and by city, and five things you can check on your own website in five minutes.

Where the data comes from

On 7 October 2026 I ran 130 searches on Seznam, the search engine used by roughly a quarter of Czech users, for the phrases people type when they need a tradesperson or a local service: plumber Brno, dentist Olomouc, car repair Liberec and so on. Ten trades times thirteen regional capitals. From the first page of results I kept the websites of actual businesses and removed directories, lead portals, media and chains, meaning any site that appeared in three or more cities. That left 819 websites.

For each one I downloaded the home page once and read its code, the way a search engine sees the page without running scripts. 758 sites opened over https, and the percentages below refer to those. These are businesses that already rank on the first page, so if anything the sample is better than average. Company names are not published. The anonymised data is available for download at the end of the article.

What small business websites lack most often

Missing on the home pageShare of 758 sites
Structured data for search engines56%
Image for sharing on social media50%
Phone number you can tap on a mobile43%
Google measurement tag36%
Page description for search engines24%
Main heading (H1)21%
Redirect from http to https10%
Mobile viewport setting6%

Mobile is a solved problem: only 6% of sites lack the basic setting for phones. The weak spot is everything that turns a visit into a job. Almost half of the sites show the phone number as plain text, so a visitor on a mobile has to copy it. More than half give search engines no structured information about the business, such as the address, opening hours and phone, in a form they can read. And a quarter have no page description, so Google picks the snippet itself, often a piece of the menu or the footer.

The Meta pixel, the measurement tag for Facebook and Instagram ads, is missing on 89% of sites. For businesses that do not advertise there it does not matter. For those that do, it means they have no idea how many customers the ads brought in.

Roughly one site in sixteen does not open over https

Of the 819 sites, 51 did not open over https at all and only work on unencrypted http. Browsers flag such pages as not secure, and a form or an email address on them puts some visitors off. Another 79 sites have https but leave visitors on the unencrypted version when they type the address without https. The fix is usually a certificate switched on at the hosting provider and one redirect.

Tap-to-call by trade

TradeNo tap-to-call phone
Accountants58%
Hairdressers53%
Builders50%
Carpenters47%
Dentists45%
Restaurants44%
Beauty salons42%
Electricians37%
Plumbers31%
Car repair shops31%

Plumbers and car repair shops do best, which makes sense: these are trades people call straight away. Accountants and hairdressers do worst, even though a customer on a mobile usually reaches them by phone too. Each site is counted under the trade it was found for, and every trade has between 57 and 100 sites.

Tap-to-call by city

City (sites)No tap-to-call phone
Ostrava (66)52%
Ústí nad Labem (57)49%
Olomouc (56)46%
Karlovy Vary (51)45%
Plzeň (58)43%
Pardubice (58)43%
Jihlava (49)43%
České Budějovice (53)42%
Liberec (58)41%
Zlín (59)41%
Hradec Králové (62)40%
Brno (77)38%
Prague (78)37%

Prague and Brno come out best, Ostrava and Ústí nad Labem worst. The differences between cities are smaller than between trades, and with around sixty sites per city treat them as indicative.

Structured data by trade

Structured data helps a search engine understand what a business does, where it is and when it is open. It is missing most often on the websites of dentists (68%) and restaurants (62%), exactly the trades where people look up the address and opening hours the most. Builders (48%) and accountants (49%) do best, though even there it is still missing on about half the sites.

How old the websites are

375 sites show a year in the footer. On 106 of them (28%) the year is older than 2025, and on 65 sites (17%) it is 2021 or earlier. An old year does not mean the site is broken. But a visitor reads it as a sign that nobody looks after the website, and then finds it hard to believe the business will answer an enquiry.

What the sites run on

WordPress powers 295 sites, or 39%. Webnode follows with 53 sites (7%), then Wix with 14, Joomla with 13 and Shoptet with 11. For 367 sites (48%) I could not identify the system or it is a custom build. The system itself does not decide quality: the gaps in the tables above turned up on all of them.

Five things to check on your own website

Limits of the survey

I measured only the home page and only its code. A form or a phone number may sit on a contact page, and a measurement tag may load through another script, so the real picture may be slightly better. On about one percent of sites the content is rendered by scripts and looks emptier in the measurement than it is. Read the numbers as a picture of the market, not as a verdict on individual businesses.

The data without site names or addresses is available as a CSV file (Czech column headings, semicolon separated, opens in Excel). If you use it, please credit getwebify.studio. The Czech original of this article, with the full method, is at getwebify.studio/blog/pruzkum-webu-malych-firem-2026.
