Website not bringing customers: 9 real reasons and what to do
Every week someone tells me “we have a website, but nobody contacts us through it”. I have seen dozens of these websites and the reasons repeat. Here are the nine most common, from the ones you spot in five minutes to the ones that need data.
First, find out which of two problems you have
A website that brings no customers always has one of two problems. Either nobody visits it, or people visit but do nothing. The solutions are completely different and most owners do not separate them. Open Google Analytics or Search Console and look at visits over the last month. Under two hundred people a month is a visibility problem. Over five hundred people with no enquiry is a website problem.
Reasons you can spot in five minutes
1. Phone and enquiry are out of reach
Open your website on a phone. Do you see a phone number you can tap and an enquiry button straight away? If you have to scroll or look for a Contact page, you lose people who wanted to call right now. For trades and services this is the most common and cheapest fix.
2. The website does not say what you do and for whom
Homepages often say “welcome to our website” or carry a slogan about quality and tradition. A visitor has three seconds to understand whether they are in the right place. The headline should state the service, the area and the audience: Apartment renovations in Prague for owners who want a fixed deadline and price. Nothing more.
3. No photos of your own work
Everyone recognises stock photos. Five sharp phone photos of your last job convince more than twenty generic ones. If a website has no real photo at all, the customer does not know whether the business even exists. More in own photos vs stock photos.
4. The form has ten fields
Name, email, phone, company, company ID, address, message, consent, captcha. Nobody fills that in on a phone. Three fields work: what you need, phone, optionally email. The rest you learn on the call. After sending, the customer should see a confirmation, and you should get the enquiry by email and on your phone. See why nobody fills in your contact form.
5. The website breaks or loads slowly on mobile
Most visits to small business websites come from phones. If the page takes five seconds to load or text overlaps, people leave before they read anything. You can measure it for free with Google PageSpeed Insights. Under 50 points on mobile is a reason to fix it.

6. Google does not show the website even for your company name
Search your company name with your city. If the website is not on the first page, it has a technical problem: missing titles and descriptions, no sitemap, or Google does not know it at all. I cover this in why your website is not showing on Google. Without fixing the basics, even the best content will not help.
7. The website targets words nobody searches for
The business writes about “complex solutions” and “individual approach”. The customer searches for “plumber Prague 6” or “bathroom renovation price”. The website must use the customer's words, not the company's. Search Console shows which queries your website appears for. If your service and city are missing there, this is the reason.
8. Missing trust: reviews, references, a real person
Who is behind the business, how long they have worked, what customers say. Google reviews on the website, references with place and year, and the owner's photo or name build more trust than any text about professionalism. A faceless business loses to one with a face, even if it is more expensive.
9. Nobody tracks what people do on the website
Without measurement you do not know where people leave. Google Analytics is free and shows whether people leave the homepage immediately or reach the form and do not send it. Each case has a different fix. A website without measurement is repaired by gut feeling, and that almost never hits the target.
What to fix first
| Symptom | Most likely reason | Fix | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visits but no enquiries | Points 1, 2, 4, 8 | Rebuild the homepage, shorten the form, add reviews | Days |
| Only a few dozen visits a month | Points 6, 7 | Technical basics, content in customer words, Google Business Profile | Weeks to months |
| Mobile visitors leave within seconds | Point 5 | Speed and mobile, often a new foundation | Days to 2 weeks |
| You do not know what happens | Point 9 | Set up measurement and wait a week | An hour |
From experience: websites with visits but no enquiries usually need a rebuilt homepage, a shorter form and more trust. That is a few days of work and in price terms a facelift, not a new website. For websites without visits it usually pays to build a new foundation, because fixing the old one costs more and the result is worse.
A typical case
A drywall and renovation company had a website that would not open properly on a phone, had no references and did not say where the company works. It had visits but no enquiries. Instead of patching it, the solution was a shorter, faster website built around finished jobs with place and year and a clearly listed service area. No magic, just points 2, 3 and 5 from this list.

How do I know whether the problem is the website or the traffic?
Check monthly visits in Google Analytics or Search Console. Under two hundred people is a visibility problem: work on content and technical basics. Over five hundred people with no enquiry is a website problem: work on the homepage, the form and trust.
How much does it cost to fix a website that brings no customers?
A facelift of the homepage, form and trust elements usually costs CZK 9,900 to 19,900. A new website instead of the old one starts at CZK 19,990. The technical state of the old website decides, not its looks.
Will advertising help if my website brings no customers?
Only if the website is ready to receive enquiries. Ads sending people to a long form with no phone number just make every enquiry more expensive. Fix the website first, then advertise.
How soon will changes show?
Homepage and form changes show within days if the website has visits. Changes for Google take weeks to months.
